My husband wrote this to a friend who is in her early 50's and she is on a "walk about", a kind of mid life re-defining of who she is.....now. I thought it spoke so much about our journey and how we can share where we have been to others who are on a similar place on their journey...perhaps a bit of a "Hero's Journey".
We tease her a bit that she is out finding herself and she mentioned a saying that resonated with her, "Where ever you go, there you are." ...from one of my favorite movies......
The line is from Buckaroo Banzai…should rent the movie sometime if you haven’t seen it. ET’s, 8th dimension, etc… Note it was made in 1984
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!, often shortened to Buckaroo Banzai, is a 1984 science fiction film. It was directed and produced by W. D. Richter, and concerns the efforts of the multi-talented Dr. Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock musician, to save the world by defeating a band of inter-dimensional aliens called Red Lectroids from Planet 10. The film is a cross between the action/adventure and sci-fi film genres, and also includes elements of comedy, satire, and romance.[3]
Here should be the scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv_jkju_iZg
Apparently there is a book from 1994, ten years later, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/wherever-you-go-there-you-are-jon-kabat-zinn/1102636030?ean=9781401307783
Here is another interesting take on it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ed-and-deb-shapiro/wherever-you-go-there-you-are_b_858112.html
Anyway…what I was trying to say is it’s about finding and being happy ... being you. The location really doesn’t matter because “you” are always there with yourself. Being out of the old makes it seems better, when really what it might do is remove the old that is blocking your view. The old cant see the forest for the trees thing.
Remember The Four Agreements…he talks about how we all live in our own world, our perceived world…he called it a “dream”. And no one else is living your dream. They are living theirs, beside and with you but not in yours.
Found this quote…“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. -- The Buddha
Enjoy the Journey…and at the end maybe you can use the Grateful Dead famous lyrics, the line from "Truckin'":
Lately it occurs to me: What a long, strange trip it's been.
