Just one more Breath…

A friend was telling me a story that her friend had told her…..I thought this was important to share with you.

The father had an advanced case of Alzheimer’s and he was living in a nursing home since his wife could no longer care for him at home.  Even before he was moved to a nursing home, he didn’t know his wife and kids and family.

He had an accident at the nursing home and his health deteriorated quickly and the family was summoned.

They all felt that his passing would be bitter sweet…a release for him but painful to each of them, on many levels since they had become strangers to him.

His family was gathered at his bedside.

He took his last breath…all of them knew it and time seemed to stop for them as they realized the moment had come….and grief was starting to set in.

Then he took a rattling, abrupt intake of air.  They were shocked…..at the breath but more so because the man they knew ………had parted the curtain of Alzheimer’s, reached out to them.....he knew them.

He kissed his wife repeatedly and voiced his love for her and each one of them got to connect to their husband, father…loved one.

This reprieve lasted 20 minutes and then he passed peacefully.  Each of them had the opportunity to say goodbye to the man they knew and loved......closure.

What a miracle this family experienced!
